Wison-Shell Hybrid Gasification Technology Successfully Enters Demonstration Phase

Release time:2013-11-11

Shanghai, 11 November 2013 – Wison Engineering Services Co. Ltd. (“Wison Engineering” or the “Company”, SEHK stock code: 2236, together with its subsidiaries, the “Group”), announced that the Shell-Wison Hybrid Gasification Demonstration Plant has successfully started up in Nanjing, marking the commencement of the demonstration and application phase of the new Shell-Wison hybrid coal gasification technology.

The new hybrid gasifier technology was developed using extensive experience from Shell’s coal and residue gasification technologies, and offers a more compact design based on water quench technology. The successful operation of the demonstration plant, which was engineered by Wison Engineering Ltd., an indirect non-wholly owned subsidiary of the Company, will help to propel the development of China’s coal-to-chemical industry.

The Shell-Wison hybrid coal gasification technology allows processing of a wide range of feedstocks, potentially offering the advantages of being highly reliable in operation, economical, efficient and environmentally friendly, and therefore, suitable for large-scale projects.

Mr. Liu Haijun, Senior Vice President of Wison Engineering, said, “It is our great pleasure to cooperate with Shell and to successfully demonstrate hybrid coal gasification technology. The successful start-up of the demonstration project is attributed to the joint effort of both parties, which fully demonstrates Shell’s profound expertise in coal gasification and energy technologies, as well as Wison Engineering’s accumulated technological capabilities in the coal-to-chemicals sector and its experience in engineering design.”

Wison Engineering is among the few engineering companies in China to own a large number of proprietary coal-to-chemicals technologies. Among the various proprietary technologies it has developed in the coal-to-chemicals area are MTO light olefins separation technologies that have been successfully commercialized, a coal-to-gas technology under development in collaboration with Foster Wheeler and Clariant, as well as coal-to-ethylene glycol technologies under development with Tianjin University, etc.
